Jeremiah 10:14-23
Jeremiah is most well-known as the weeping prophet or also as the prophet with the broken heart. The reason being, God gave Jeremiah a message to tell to his people. This message was obviously something that the people hated. Jeremiah’s ministry was very unique in the fact that He had no converts! In todays world, If we heard about a missionary being on the field for a good amount of time without converting a single soul. Unfortunately some would look down at that missionary, talk bad about Him behind his back, and just have a total disrespectful for him in general. Believe it or not, this was God’s plan for Jeremiah the whole time. God was trying to teach Jeremiah a lesson that we need to serve and obey our God even when the circumstances are not always going our way, and even when it seems that everything is falling apart around us, always trust in the Lord!
A huge reason why the people who Jeremiah was ministering to rejected his message was because of something that was already captivating their heart’s. Vs. 14-15 The bible states that these people were vain and also were worshiping idols. A lot of us wonder why it is so hard to get volunteers for ministries at church, why is it so difficult to get people committed to various ministries, or even to just simply get people to read their Bibles! Here is a thought, maybe why it is so difficult and challenging to do those things is because of the fact that some people truly CAN’T do those things because of the idols already formed in their heart’s!
By Definition, An Idol is anything that receives our worship that does not deserve our worship. Try to take a minute out of your busy day and examine your life and ask your self a very important question. ” Is there anything in my life that I am putting at a higher importance than God?” If your honest with yourself as I also have to be, I believe that there are times, that if we are not careful then something can become an idol in our life.
Our God created each and every one of us as people, who are full of WORSHIP. Also by definition, The word Worship means: reverence, adoration, exaltation, declaring with our lives the value and worth of something!” Since God made us full of worship and whether we realize it or not, we all worship something every single day! I encourage you again to examine your life and try to figure out what it is that you worship everyday? For some: it is their family, others it may be a spouse/significant other, or maybe even things or devices, BUT For the sold out believer, who loves Jesus more than anything or anyone else, it is our GOD!
Through out scripture, any time idol’s or graven images are mentioned, God is very clear that he want’s nothing to do with them. If you have something or someone in your life that is more important God, Please realize in order to progress in your Christian life, You have to cast down those idols or anything that gets in the way of your relationship with God. Nothing is worth our attention, money, time, energy, or even our lives,if it is not the Lord Jesus! Who do you worship ?
