Financial advice from a senior saint !

Last week I had the privilege to talk with a elderly women that goes to my church. I saw she had things that needed to be carried to her car, so I asked her if I could help her, she gladly accepted my request. As we approached her car, I made a comment about how nice of a car she had. She replied and said “Thank you, God has truly blessed me, I paid $20,000 CASH for it!” This widowed lady is well up in years, Her husband has passed away and now she is living off of her retirement. Obviously she knows a thing or two about money, So I asked her for advice since I am a young man getting ready to be married. She told me 2 things:

1. Pay cash for everything!
2. Don’t get a credit card!

I praise the Lord for that godly lady, and for that precious advice!

Jeremiah 10:14-23 Who do you worship?

Jeremiah 10:14-23

Jeremiah is most well-known as the weeping prophet or also as the prophet with the broken heart. The reason being, God gave Jeremiah a message to tell to his people. This message was obviously something that the people hated. Jeremiah’s ministry was very unique in the fact that He had no converts! In todays world, If we heard about a missionary being on the field for a good amount of time without converting a single soul. Unfortunately some would look down at that missionary, talk bad about Him behind his back, and just have a total disrespectful for him in general. Believe it or not, this was God’s plan for Jeremiah the whole time. God was trying to teach Jeremiah a lesson that we need to serve and obey our God even when the circumstances are not always going our way, and even when it seems that everything is falling apart around us, always trust in the Lord!

A huge reason why the people who Jeremiah was ministering to rejected his message was because of something that was already captivating their heart’s. Vs. 14-15 The bible states that these people were vain and also were worshiping idols. A lot of us wonder why it is so hard to get volunteers for ministries at church, why is it so difficult to get people committed to various ministries, or even to just simply get people to read their Bibles! Here is a thought, maybe why it is so difficult and challenging to do those things is because of the fact that some people truly CAN’T do those things because of the idols already formed in their heart’s!

By Definition, An Idol is anything that receives our worship that does not deserve our worship. Try to take a minute out of your busy day and examine your life and ask your self a very important question. ” Is there anything in my life that I am putting at a higher importance than God?” If your honest with yourself as I also have to be, I believe that there are times, that if we are not careful then something can become an idol in our life.

Our God created each and every one of us as people, who are full of WORSHIP. Also by definition, The word Worship means: reverence, adoration, exaltation, declaring with our lives the value and worth of something!” Since God made us full of worship and whether we realize it or not, we all worship something every single day! I encourage you again to examine your life and try to figure out what it is that you worship everyday? For some: it is their family, others it may be a spouse/significant other, or maybe even things or devices, BUT For the sold out believer, who loves Jesus more than anything or anyone else, it is our GOD!

Through out scripture, any time idol’s or graven images are mentioned, God is very clear that he want’s nothing to do with them. If you have something or someone in your life that is more important God, Please realize in order to progress in your Christian life, You have to cast down those idols or anything that gets in the way of your relationship with God. Nothing is worth our attention, money, time, energy, or even our lives,if it is not the Lord Jesus! Who do you worship ?

Courageous

After watching the movie “Courageous” for the second time within the last two days, I realized how easy it is for the average father in America to think it is alright to just be an “average” dad. This is a very common misconception that we all need to confront in our own lives. Through out Gods word, we are shown how God does not want us to be “average”. God wants his children to be radical Christians who love Him more than anything else, and for it to show through out our daily lives.

As very few people may know, I have a step dad. When my Mom was pregnant with me over 19 years ago, She told my biological father the news, and as soon as he heard, he left. Ever since then, I have never met him or even seen a picture of him.

Even before this movie I have always been very grateful that my step dad, (who has always been there for me ever since I was 3) because he stepped up and became much more to me than a father, He became my dad. Which when you think of it, theres a big difference! Just as the famous quote goes, “anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy” that statement is so true.

The last thing this world needs is more biological fathers out there, having no responsibilities, and caring for no one but themselves. God is truly calling out for more men who are “fathers” to be “Dad’s” and to be courageous and lead their families, Exactly as God has designed it in His Word.

Teens For Christ @ Lebanon !

Over the last 3 years the Lord has allowed me to be involved in Teens for Christ at Middletown High School. Bro.Max has always been in charge and did a great job at bringing me along the last few years and training me for one day to start my very own bible study at a different High School and because of the grace of the Lord, that day was today!

The Lord allowed me to start a brand new bible study at Lebanon High School this morning! I have been looking forward To this day for a few weeks now, and the excitement kept growing. I personally believe that if you love Jesus and his Word, then you will fall in love with Teens 4 Christ. Anytime you obey the Lord and step out by faith to get the gospel to people that need Him then naturally God will bless his work.

The reason why I decided to start a bible study at Lebanon is because of a young man that I had the privilege to lead to Lord and to influence, is a senior at Lebanon High. His name is Skyler, and I would like to ask you to pray for Him, he has been taking big steps in his Christian life and decided to give his all to Jesus Christ! It is so encouraging to see him make these small yet important decisions in his Chrisitan life!

This morning we arrived at the School and started passing out small flyers that describe our bible study and had 3 students show up! I was so excited to see those 3 people show up because honestly in my head I was scared, fearful, uneasy about everything this morning and then the Lord totally took care of everything and all the things that I was “fearful” of was so small compared to the glory of God! Praise Jesus for always being there for us! Please continue to pray for T4C at Lebanon and also for Skyler!

Day 5

20110912-052744.jpg

It’s day 5 here in Harbin,China, which happens to be our last full day in the country. This week in China I have been able to experience different: food, culture, and people, but one thing that is familiar to me here in China is that the church is preaching the gospel, training men,and planning to plant churches ! The thing I enjoyed most about my last day in China,is spending time with Levi and Steven , which are 2 of the Chinese leaders in the church. Please pray for Levi,Steven, and Thomas. These are the three young men that Bro.Taube has been training for the ministry. I am excited about their love and passion for Christ!

Day 4

20110911-093631.jpg

Today I was able to be apart of the church services here in Harbin,China! The Lord definitely blessed to say the least. I was able to share my testimony with the college age Sunday school and taught a short lesson out of Ephesians 2. During the service it was so encouraging to hear the church singing praises unto God. Even though I didn’t understand a word of what they were singing , my heart was truly blessed to sense their passion and love for God! After the preaching Jake Taube baptized a few of the recent believers of their church. God is most definitely doing a great work in China, please pray that this church would reach China and eventually the whole world to Christ!

Day 3

20110910-102910.jpg

Today marked the 3rd day since we have been in China. Today around noon we left to go to the airport to fly from Beijing to Harbin. Harbin is where the Taube’s and Tolson’s church is located. Around 8:00pm we arrived at Harbin with a warm welcome from the Tolson’s then we all got to spend time with each other at a local Chinese restaurant across the street. Please pray for the services in the morning! It’s going to be a busy day but I pray that God will do amazing things as he always does!

Day 2

20110909-080602.jpg

On the second day of my trip to China, Jake Taube,Max,Phil and I were able to visit “The great wall of China”!!! It was pretty amazing to see this well know sight, and the view from the Great Wall was beautiful! Shortly after that, we ate lunch then visited Tiananmen square. Then finished the day off with good ole souvenir shopping.

Through out the day it was overwhelming to think of the fact that I walked past thousands and thousands of people today, and surely most of them have never heard the gospel before! The need is very great here in China and my prayer for today was that God would lead more people here to China who would preach the gospel to a country that desperately needs Him!

Day 1

20110907-114925.jpg

Currently I am sitting in the Dayton airport waiting for my flight. The excitement for this trip is higher than ever and the thought that keeps coming to mind, is how thankful I am for everyone that helped me get to China. Internet access will be limited in China so if you would like to contact me you can send me an email at tommydepew@gmail.com.

It still amazes me that theLord gave me the desire to surrender my life to world missions 2 years ago. Since then the Lord has allowed me to visit Morocco and China! The world would like us to think that they can offer us so much in this world that is better than God can give us. That statement is the farthest from the truth! Our God has blessed me more than I can count and it continues each and everyday! If you fully surrender your life to God, he will take you places that you never thought you would go and give you more than you would ever expect. What a wonderful savior we serve!

What a privilege it is to be able to go to a totally different country to see the gospel working first hand! I am traveling with Bro.Max and Bro.Phil, please pray for our safety and that God would make this trip one that we would never forget! God bless all of you!”

The day before I leave for China!

I leave for my missions trip to China tomorrow morning and I am very excited about what the Lord has planned for me. Just last April I was able to to visit the beautiful country of Morocco for my very first missions trip and our God showed me so many new things and I am expecting the same thing for this trip. I praise God for everyone that contributed to get me to China with their prayers and money. I thank the Lord for all of you. I pray that this trip will have a huge impact on my life for the cause of Jesus Christ!
